The bright new era that collapsed into a farce
Article Abstract:
The unionists have refused to take their places with the republicans in a new devolved administration for Northern Ireland, casting doubt on the future of the peace process. Some observers feel that Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble was misguided in deciding not to appear in the assembly to make a speech detailing his position. Sinn Fein Pres Gerry Adams highlighted the negative impact the failure to establish a fully operating assembly will have on the future of Northern Ireland, encouraging many young people to leave the province.

The long march
Article Abstract:
The Orange Order in Portadown, Northern Ireland, is adamant that it must be permitted to maintain its annual traditional of marching to Drumcree church. This march has been the subject of conflict throughout its history, and this has prompted the Orange Order to regard it as its duty to stand up to what it regards as periodic efforts to take away its marching rights. The march is regarded by the Catholics of the Garvaghy Road, down which it passes, as a supremacist ritual.
