Why is Blair so worried by Labour's hard left?
Article Abstract:
The leader of the United Kingdom Labor party, Tony Blair, faces no clear opposition from the political left of the party. There are divisions within the left wing. Ken Livingston, one member of the left, has proclaimed himself loyal to Blair. Robin Cook is seen as a leader of the soft left, and has had a difficult year so is unable to be other than loyal. The government could be criticised if it sought to control Livingston, and it would be wiser to treat him with kindness.

A resolution for Tony Blair: try not to neglect the Cabinet
Article Abstract:
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair should be aware of the need to secure the continuing loyalty of Cabinet ministers. Some ministers may now begin to see some room for manoeuvre, and this could prove challenging for Blair. The Cabinet will not act collectively against Blair, but it is important that he develops a clear idea of who is likely to support him fully and who could act against him. He must also seek to play down the sleaze allegations against the Conservatives, as placing too much emphasis on corruption could prove damaging.
