Professor Manfred Korfmann from Tubingen University, Germany leads archaeological work in Troy, site of the Homeric wars, dating back to 2,400 BC. The Dardanelles Strait is where European and Asian history meet. The lost city of Atlantis theory as described by Plato still causes controversy. Georgia on my mind
Article Abstract:
Georgia has now become a key destination for adventurous independent travellers. It has many new guest houses, where prices are reasonable, and many of its towns have a lively, friendly atmosphere. There is no longer any banditry, but the roads are still in a very poor state and supplies of electricity, water and gas can be sporadic. However, Georgia offers attractive scenery and opportunities for trekking and skiing.

Back to 7000BC - by laser
Article Abstract:
Latest technology is being used by archaeologists working to uncover the world's first town, situated at Catalhoyuk in central Turkey. This includes DNA testing, laser-range finders and high-powered microscopes. A survey of the site has been made using an extremely accurate satellite positioning system, and medical fibre optics may now be used to look in detail at wall paintings.
