A woman finds herself at sea
Article Abstract:
Women sailors are now beginning to be taken seriously, according to Tracy Edwards, who in 1990 skippered Whitbread's first completely female yacht crew in the Round the World Race. However, she has still found it very hard to obtain the necessary sponsorship for her planned non-stop voyage around the world. She only feels in control of her life when she is at sea, and has developed an extremely independent spirit. She admits to faults in her personality, and has had two unsuccessful marriages.

Why Empire wives' suffering was cloaked in shame
Article Abstract:
It was a long time before ordinary Britons realized that British women had suffered greatly as prisoners of war of the Japanese during the second world war, according to Lavinia Warner, who has researched this subject extensively and was consultant for the film 'Paradise Road.' Over half of the women in the camp died, and those who survived returned to the UK and slipped unnoticed back into everyday life. It was often very hard to persuade these women to talk about their memories.

Live from Norwich, and Bath ... and everywhere
Article Abstract:
It is nice to be popular among young people, according to entertainer and broadcaster Nicholas Parsons. He first became popular as the host of television quiz show 'Sale of the Century,' but has also appeared in a considerable number of pantomimes and has been involved for a long time with the Radio 4 programme 'Just a Minute.' He regards himself as an all-round entertainer, and resents the fact that people often try to tie him down to particular roles.
