American voters give priority to their purses

Polls show that the majority of American voters are more concerned about the the economy than any other issue. President Bush's record on economic recovery is poor. He introduced his 'Agenda for American Renewal' in Sep 1992, confirming his intentions to keep taxation and government spending down. Candidate Bill Clinton plans to finance his economic recovery programme by taxing high earners and foreign companies. The Republicans promote the view that his programme will require taxing middle-income Americans.

Article Abstract:
Dan Quayle, the 41-year-old Indiana senator, employed James Baker as campaign chairman in the 1988 presidential campaign, but found him unsatisfactory. The media stirred up a bad atmosphere and Quayle was portrayed as inarticulate and insignificant. Bush's campaign team used him as a media distraction from their candidate. Quayle had no chance to disucss his role with Bush and within three months publicity about him disappeared.
