Abraham Polonsky
Article Abstract:
Screenwriter and director Abraham Polonsky studied at the City College of New York before gaining a degree in Law from Colombia University. He worked as a lawyer before deciding to develop a writing career. He was employed by Paramount in the late 1930s as a staff writer, having already written radio scripts and several novels. He served with the Office of Strategic Services in Europe during the second world war, then returned to Paramount. However, he subsequently left Paramount and wrote an original screenplay for 'Body and Soul.' This won him an Oscar nomination for his script.

Leslie Stevens

Film and television scriptwriter, producer and director Leslie Stevens completed a Bachelor of Arts degree, and in 1942 enlisted in the Army Air Corps. After leaving the US Army, he studied at Yale's drama school and later the American Theatre Wing. His play 'Bullfight' opened off-Broadway in 1954, and in 1955 his play 'The Champagne Complex' was staged in a Broadway theatre. He had a major Broadway hit in 1958 with 'The Marriage-Go-Round.'
