Agony aunts have problems, too
Article Abstract:
Agony aunts who advise teenagers in magazines meet child abuse experts to help them with a fuller range of reliable information. Anita Naik of Just Seventeen has about 400 letters a month from sexual abuse victims. They are mainly anonymous so she is restricted to recommending Childline. Many youth counselling services have lost their funding. Some letters cover the same subjects as they did in the 60s and 70s: weight, boyfriends and infatuation. New problems include HIV and unemployment.

For a Carpenter, it's still yesterday once more
Article Abstract:
Singer and songwriter Richard Carpenter still finds it very hard to accept that his sister Karen, with whom he performed and became famous, died at the age of only 32. He has focused over recent years on producing other people's records, and none of his compositions has been as successful as the material he was writing during the peak of the Carpenters' success. He is currently planning a new song which will be a tribute to his sister as a human being and a singer.

'I could stand up in a Wonderbra and push along those lines, but that's not why I'm doing this.' (saxophonist Holly Slater)
Article Abstract:
Tenor saxophonist Holly Slater found that winning the first Royal Sun Alliance Jazz competition in 1996 really helped to overcome the prejudice against female saxophonists which she had been frequently encountering. She has found it very difficult to be taken seriously, and has had to try much harder to prove herself than a male saxophonist would have done. She believes that there is still a shortage of role models for aspiring female jazz musicians.
