Lesson 1: respect the dead
Article Abstract:
Medical students at St George's Medical School, London, England study anatomy by dissecting corpses. Groups of students learn on the same body for a year. Blood is removed and introductory sessions prepare students for dissection, starting with places needing less skill. At the end of a year, the professor formally returns the bodies to the undertakers for relatives to hold a funeral. Some medical schools no longer use cadavers but rely on slides, computer graphics and ready-dissected organs because it is cheaper.

The clown who craves respect
Article Abstract:
Boxer Frank Bruno has been extremely popular among working class people in the UK for many years. His forthcoming fight against Mike Tyson is seen by many as symbolising a conflict between righteousness and decency and crime and danger. He has become a national hero, like many other black sportsmen, and has developed a very positive image of being gentle and caring. However, he is still very concerned to win the forthcoming fight in order to boost his self-respect.

'It's often said that after a while you cease to be frightened of money, but it is equally true that you lose all respect for it.' (impact of collapse of merchant bank Barings)
Article Abstract:
The actions of Nick Leeson, a trader whose activities seem to have been responsible for the collapse of merchant bank Barings, highlight the very fragile nature of the business in which traders operate. Barings was very sound financially, yet a single trader has been able to destroy it. Traders operate in an environment in which they are encouraged to take large risks, but they are now starting to accept that they will eventually be subject to stricter regulation.
