Alec Kitson was involved in United Kingdom labor unions and the Labor party. He was a man with passionate beliefs about morals and an interest in events outside the United Kingdom, He backed causes such as civil rights before they were fashionable. He held a number of influential posts including chairmanship of the Scottish Trades Union Congress and chairmanship of the Labour Party Conference. He was also involved in regional transportation policy and helped develop an efficient transportation system in Edinburgh, Scotland.
