In a New York state of mind
Article Abstract:
New York tabloids are not making money and the New York Post may fold completely. Businessman Mr Hoffenberg guaranteed its losses for four weeks in Jan 1993. The Daily News employed three editors from the New York Post in an attempt to build circulation from 777,000. The New York Times sells 1,146,000 daily. They all seem typographically old-fashioned by British standards. The only one which can use colour on the front page is Newsday, which sells 758,000.

Messing about with our rivers
Article Abstract:
Rivers have traditionally been seen as an exploitable resource, being used for transporting goods, for washing and as a waste disposal site. Only recently have people begun realising that rivers need to be treated with care, and now they mainly serve only leisure purposes. Rivers are not a resource to be taken for granted, and will only continue to serve us if they are treated properly.
