New markets open up in telephony
Article Abstract:
Cable telephony is supplied to the general public and to business. There are about 100,000 subscribers in the UK. Half the revenue of Comcast International is from telephony. Business users need facsimile and computer data communications as well as voice traffic. Satellite business services transmit data such as marketing support information, product literature and spare parts catalogues. Videoconferencing has problems for participants but is much cheaper than international travel. It also competes with company newsletters.

Adaptability is the key
Article Abstract:
Offices contain a variety of technologies: telephony, imaging and computers. Productivity and efficiency can be improved by combining technologies. Company structures place them in different departments. Adaptable methodologies advise on suitable automation and how to evaluate the results. A systematic approach to office solutions involves monitoring office practices and expressing them as a unit of measurement or basing plans on the movement of the office's raw material through the office.

Medicine without frontiers
Article Abstract:
The UK Department of Health's Dr. Bill Maton-Howarth has carried out a review of telemedicine which indicates that seventeen telemedicine projects in the UK are in full operation, and that there are a lot more being planned. The value of such projects, in economic terms, has not been generally assessed. Maton-Howarth believes that research is required into the duty of care of the UK National Health Service and doctors, the consent of patients and confidentiality.
