An ex-estate agent changes sides
Article Abstract:
Tony Halstead had been an estate agent for over 30 years, running the Roy Brooks agency in London before selling out for a very good price, but he was horrified at the service he later got from agents. When they came to see the house he wanted to sell, they overvalued it by 10% and he had to insist that the asking price be a compromise between their valuation and his. It eventually sold for 10% less than the compromise price. Some agents seemed to give up after the first week. He has started a service called Home Sales Guidance to advise sellers even before they approach an agent.

A city that frowns on boom and bust
Article Abstract:
Housing prices in Edinburgh have continued to rise even during the recession which has knocked down high prices in London and the South East. With Edinburgh's growth as a financial centre, housing boomed almost as much as london during the 1980s but continued to rise when London prices steadied and dropped. However, an average house in Edinburgh still costs 20% less than the London equivalent. The Scottish housing market is also more bouyant because of the protection afforded to buyers by the legal system.
