Media interest in Hong Kong is rising as the time approaches for it to return to Chinese rule in Jul 1997. Many leading television networks are set to invest heavily in coverage of Hong Kong, and all leading news organisations have already booked their hotel space and made detailed plans for reporting the various ceremonies associated with the handover to China. The BBC will send at least 60 journalists to support its existing bureaux in Peking and Hong Kong.

Sky links up with the owner of television rights to World Cup
Article Abstract:
Digital television is set to be launched in Germany later in Jul 1996 following an agreement between BSkyB, owned by Rupert Murdoch, and German businessman Leo Kirch. The digital platform in Germany will be managed by Kirch Group, which owns the broadcast rights to 15,000 films and 50,000 hours of television. It holds exclusive rights to the football World Cups in 2002 and 2006.
