Love of peace sparks a war in Provence
Article Abstract:
Plans by the French government to shut down a missile base in the Plateau d'Albion, situated in the Provence region of France have attracted considerable controversy. Many residents of Apt, the commercial centre of the region, have protested against the closure, as they fear that it will bring many job losses. They only alternative option they would consider is a helicopter-training school on the site, but this has been opposed by residents of the small town of Sault, who fear that such an establishment would disturb the peace of the local countryside.

The angry sound of the suburbs
Article Abstract:
There is considerable tension on poor housing estates in France, where people live in bleak surroundings and feel alienated from the rest of society. Many inhabitants of these estates are first and second generation immigrants, and unemployment is very high. There have been many clashes between young immigrants and the police, and these immigrants are now seen by the rest of society as a threat.
