Article Abstract:
The plan for the future strategy of the British Broadcasting Corp's (BBC) Radio 4 has involved several months of preparation, including audience research. The plan has been developed by a team which includes Iain Marley as a strategist, Jagdip Jagpal as chief assistant, and five commissioning editors. The United Kingdom press comments on the plan before details have been released, and the comments are sometimes critical and based on misinformation. There is an assertion that 30 programs will be got rid of, which is alarmist. The plan is backed by the BBC governors though listerners have some reservations that have to be considered.

Article Abstract:
Mixed views have been expressed about the BBC's plans for the future of Radio 3. Some observers are concerned that Radio 3 may be trying to attract a more general audience, rather than people who have a specific interest in classical music. Radio 3 controller Nicholas Kenyon denies that there will be a process of popularization, but he admits that he is seeking presenters who can attract larger audiences. There is also concern about the use of independent production companies. Kenyon believes that using independent companies, which often offer very high quality programmes, would be a positive move.

A classical dilemma for the BBC as Radio 3's controller walks out
Article Abstract:
It will be difficult for the BBC to find a replacement for Radio 3 controller Nicholas Kenyon, who has left his post two years early. Radio 3 is the BBC's most expensive station, but has the smallest reach, with 2.6 million listeners. There are uncertainties about its identity, and this will make it hard to attract somebody to take on Kenyon's job. It seems that Radio 3 will only be really successful if it can be excluded from the BBC's focus on ratings and accepted as performing a valuable educational role.
