Art: a play for three characters, a cast of thousands
Article Abstract:
Yasmina Reza's play 'Art' has proved extremely popular in London, England, where there have been 1,000 performances and 11 casts. Indeed, some observers are now wondering whether this play will take on its own momentum and run for many years. It is strange that this un-English play, which is intellectually demanding, should have attracted such large audiences in the UK. The main reason why 'Art' has proved so appealing could be its exploration of male friendship, presenting both humour and sadness.

Council goes in search of a future role
Article Abstract:
The future of the UK Arts Council, which is currently seeking a new chairman, is uncertain. Indeed, the Minister of Culture's internal spending review will assess whether the Arts Council is required at all. The Arts Council does not fit in well with the Labour government's desire to bring art to the people and eliminate privilege. This may bring changes in the way in which it is managed, including making the chairmanship a paid executive chairmanship, rather than unpaid.
