Ashcroft sold Belize passports for 33,000 pounds sterling
Article Abstract:
BHI Offshore Financial Services, a unit of UK Conservative party Treasurer Michael Ashcroft's BHI Corp, has until recently been selling Belize passports for 33,000 pounds sterling each. This operation's website is still advertising 'economic citizenship' of Belize for a non-refundable 26,000 pounds sterling investment in the country's government, along with professional fees of 6,600 pounds sterling. Labour MPs are questioning Ashcroft's links with the Conservative party, stating that the party should give a clearer view of the sources of its funding.

Shirts for the fashionable, at a price paid in human misery
Article Abstract:
Workers at some of the 32 major garment factories on Saipan endure very harsh conditions. They risk being sent back to China or being forced to have an abortion if they become pregnant, and live in very poor quality accommodation. Many employees must work extremely long hours for little pay, and there is little personal freedom. Their plight goes unnoticed by the Japanese and American tourists who visit Saipan.

1.50 pounds sterling an hour wages in Britain's factories of fear
Article Abstract:
The National Union of Knitwear, Footwear and Apparel Trades has presented evidence to the UK Low Pay Commission indicating that employees in some small clothing factories are working for very low wages. The union is taking legal action on behalf of a number of employees, all of whom are Asian. Many workers are afraid to complain about low wages, as they do not wish to lose their job.
