Timor welcomes refugees rejected by Australia
Article Abstract:
The authorities in East Timor have responded positively to the suggestion that the country should take the 433 asylum-seekers stranded aboard a Norwegian freighter who have been refused entry to Australia. However, there has been a less positive reaction from the United Nations, which still administers East Timor.

Australia sends SAS to confront a boatload of sick and desperate refugees
Article Abstract:
There has been international criticism of Australia's decision not to allow 438 mainly Afghan refugees to enter the country. The refugees are currently on a Norwegian freighter after being rescued from a sinking Indonesian ferry.

Many ethnic Albanians living in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, have fled to northern Albania as Serbian forces loot and burn their homes. Other ethnic Albanians from Kosovo have also reached Macedonia and Montenegro. There is now evidence that Serbian forces are undertaking systematic ethnic cleansing, with many villages around the towns of Djakovica and Prizren having been emptied and destroyed. Commanders of the Kosovo Liberation Army report a mass killing of Albanians near Velika Krusa, in southern Kosovo.
