Article Abstract:
Scientists have discovered that porpoises are being infected with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and mercury, with 33 of the animals killed by such chemical pollution in the North Sea and English Channel. The London-based Institute of Zoology found that the deceased porpoises had 31.1 milligrams of PCBs per kilogram of blubber, compared with the 34 animals that suffocated in fishing nets that had 13.6 milligrams.
