Why on earth can't the BBC find a new director general?
Article Abstract:
The search for a new director general of the BBC has become extremely complex. The leading candidates for this position are seeking to discredit their rivals, as well as devising policies designed to appeal to the BBC's governors. The governors wish to be seen to be making a decision in the open, but this has merely served to complicate the process. It is believed that at least five of the governors are strongly opposed to Pearson Television Chmn Greg Dyke, who is the favoured candidate of BBC Chmn Sir Christopher Bland.

Victory after 'Stop Dyke' campaign
Article Abstract:
Pearson TV Chmn Greg Dyke has been appointed new BBC Director-General following a lengthy and controversial recruitment process. The position was formally advertised in Apr 1999, but some observers feel that the leading contenders were positioning themselves before then. Each contender appointed a campaign manager and sought to damage the image of his rivals. Some observers felt that Dyke would not be appointed after it was revealed that he had donated 50,000 pounds sterling to the Labour party.
