Battle of the shinty field
Article Abstract:
The Scottish Highland villages of Kingussie and Newtonmore have lived together in harmony for many generations. However, they are still great rivals in the sport of shinty, which has close connections with the Irish sports of camogie and hurling. Shinty began as a training for battle, and is still an extremely competitive game. It is a very fast game with close marking, and it is very common for a player's stick, known as a caman, to be smashed.

Fun, but not a patch on '65
Article Abstract:
The Royal Albert Hall is soon to host a large poetry gathering entitled 'The Return of the Reforgotten.' This is designed as a rekindling of an event held in Jun 1965, when the venue hosted the first 'International Poetry Incarnation,' which attracted 16 young poets and an audience of 8,000. Some observers believe that the new event will never be able to really capture the spirit of the 1960s.

The blind leading the blind
Article Abstract:
The 'BT Dialogue in the Dark' exhibition at the Royal Festival Hall involves visitors negotiating four everyday environments in total darkness, led by a blind guide. This provokes a wide range of complex responses, as the experience tends to be different for each visitor. Being in the dark brings out people's insecurities, but after a while it can be liberating.
