Beautiful but badly behaved
Article Abstract:
Plants from the clematis family can provide flowers in almost any month of the year. The C cirrhosa, which has creamy-yellow flowers, often flowers as early as Feb, while white C flammula and C rehderiana, which smells of cowslips, flower in autumn. The time of flowering largely determines how a clematis should be pruned. It is not actually necessary to prune a clematis at all, but plants that are not pruned will flower less than those that are. The most extensive pruning is required by clematis that flower in the second half of summer.

A compost corner that reeks of defeat - but don't throw in the trowel just yet
Article Abstract:
Keen gardeners inevitably lose some plants each year, even if they are very experienced. They must also battle continuously against weeds. However, they tend to not allow themselves to become depressed by their failures, and generally look to the future, rather than dwelling on the past. They always live in hope that there will be good weather conditions at the appropriate times of year, and welcome the opportunity to learn from their mistakes. They are fascinated by the fact that no two gardening years are ever the same.

A waxy crassula isn't just for Christmas
Article Abstract:
Garden centres in the UK are now stocking many plants which make attractive and inexpensive Christmas presents. A number of small plants could be grouped together in a bowl or basket, for example, or an arrangement could be made from packets of seeds and small bulbs. Other potential Christmas gifts include a DIY mushroom kit, an oak sapling or a Sussex trug.
