Can our squaddies ever be kept in line?
Article Abstract:
The British Armed Forces suffer from a discipline crisis which has been evident from the behavior of soldiers in Cyprus. Three Royal Green Jackets members were convicted of murdering a Danish tour guide in 1995 and three Royal Marines were arrested after dancing nude in a bar and singing the British national anthem. Greek Cypriots see the British presence as hampering tourism. Soldiers have traditionally liked to drink. Strict discipline was previously used to control them, but such methods are no longer available.

The rise of the DIY terrorist
Article Abstract:
There is a new kind of terrorism which has resulted from the widening rift between rich and poor, leading to bitterness. The Group of 7 industrialised countries met on July 30 1996 to discuss terrorism, but they focused on political terrorists rather than on those terrorists whose only objective is to create terror. The bombing of the World Trade Centre in March 1993 was an attack by the latter type, who remain anonymous and do not have the support of sponsors, unlike traditional terrorist groups.
