Brown names panel to set interest rates
Article Abstract:
The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee, which will make decisions on interest rates, will have four outside members. These will be Professor Willem Buiter, Professor Charles Goodhart, Sir Alan Budd and Dr DeAnne Julius. The appointments have been welcomed by Bank of England Governor Eddie George, who believes that the outside members will make a significant contribution to the quality of monetary analysis at the Bank of England. Some economists expect the Bank of England to announce a 0.25% rise in interest rates shortly.

Winning formula from the O'Higgins chemistry set
Article Abstract:
The share selection technique devised by US fund manager Michael O'Higgins is based on three basic premises regarding share selection. These are size, with large companies being unlikely to totally collapse, high yielding shares, with emphasis on a low share price in relation to a stock's dividend payout, and low priced shares, which tend to indicate companies which can expand rapidly. This system has given very consistent results.
