Article Abstract:
Red Hat Software's Linux operating system, a version of the Unix operating system, is beginning to present a significant challenge to Microsoft's Windows NT, particularly as NT4, the current version, has been found to have weaknesses. Linux, released through the Internet in 1991, is not owned by a specific company and is free. It is only amended by Linus Torvalds, who developed it when a student at the University of Helsinki, Finland. Users obtaining Linux through Red Hat Software for $50 obtain access to a support line.
