Bill Naughton
Article Abstract:
The authentic warmth and humor of Bill Naughton's plays raised him from obscurity to become one of London's most popular playwrights in the 1960s. His most well-known play, 'Alfie,' began as a radio play and was later made into a motion picture starring Michael Caine. Naughton's family plays at the West End's Mermaid Theatre in the 1950s were, despite their sexual content, just the thing manager Bernard Miles wanted to protest the British class system.
