Bill Gregson

Electronic engineer Bill Gregson was educated at King William's College on the Isle of Man. He joined the RAF in 1941, and became a squadron leader by the age of 24. He became technical sales manager at Ferranti in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1946, and then held the same position in London, England, until 1959. He subsequently became assistant general manager of the Pilton plant. He was very active in the British Electrotechnical and Allied Manufacturers Associations, and was its President between 1983 and 1984.

Joan Maynard
Article Abstract:
Trade unionist and politician Joan Maynard was Secretary of the Yorkshire Area Agricultural and Allied Workers between 1956 and 1978 and a member of the National Executive Committee of the Labour party between 1972 and 1982. She campaigned tirelessly on behalf of agricultural workers both before and after entering the House of Commons in Nov 1974 as MP for Sheffield Brightside, and between 1975 and 1987 served on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Agriculture.

Dorothy Dunnett
Article Abstract:
Writer, painter and civil servant Dorothy Dunnett was born in Dunfermline, Scotland, in 1923. She studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and the Glasgow School of Art and then entered the civil service. She became a well-known portrait painter in the 1950s.
