Bitter Afrikaners go north to set up white-only territory
Article Abstract:
Many of South Africa's Afrikaners have moved north since the advent of black majority rule in 1994. They have headed towards Mozambique, Zambia and Malawi, and have created farms and Boer-only communities. One of the most significant developments has been the creation of the Boer Republic Co-operative by 200 Afrikaner families on land only 50 miles from Pretoria, South Africa. Its residents, who feel that the new South African regime wishes to destroy them, are determined to retain their identity.

Journey to the heart of Africa's medieval plague
Article Abstract:
Aids is being kept under control in the West, but has developed into a very serious problem in Africa. There are 500,000 Aids orphans in Zambia, where one in five of the population is HIV positive but few are willing to admit it. Zambian families are being placed under severe financial pressure as family members fall ill and are unable to work, and the system of support through the extended family is collapsing.
