Blue Cross to oppose BAT merger
Article Abstract:
High Court approval in the UK is required before a merger between Zurich Insurance and the financial services division of BAT Industries can be completed, however such approval will be opposed by Blue Shield and Blue Cross, the US healthcare insurance firms. BAT also owns Brown & Williamson, the cigarette producer, and the health insurers fear that their efforts to win compensation payments for illnesses related to smoking will be hindered by the merger.
