Bob Kane

Cartoonist Bob Kane began drawing from comic books in the mid-1930s. He was responsible for devising the cartoon character Batman, which first appeared in Detective Comics in May 1939. This character went on to become extremely popular, featuring in films and television series. Kane also created the television cartoon characters Courageous Cat, Cook McCool and Minute Mouse, but will always be best remembered for Batman, one of the few characters to remain in continuous comic book publication.

Catherine Turney
Article Abstract:
Screenwriter Catherine Turney gained an interest in writing while working at the Pasadena Playhouse. Her play 'Bitter Harvest' was performed at the Arts Theatre in London, England, in 1936, and this led to an offer from MGM. Her most successful play was 'My Dear Children,' co-written with Jerry Horwin in 1939. She turned to screenwriting in the 1940s, producing the first viable screenplay from the episodic James Cain novel 'Mildred Pierce.'

John Chambers
Article Abstract:
Make-up artist John Chambers was born in Chicago, IL, in 1922. He worked as a commercial artist, jewellery designer and sculptor before working as a dental technician with the US Army during the second world war. He joined the make-up department of NBC in 1953.
