Bringing heads together
Article Abstract:
There are more than 70 companies operating from the Cambridge Science Park, which is located on 130 acres of land owned by Cambridge University's Trinity College. The facility is the largest concentration of drug development and information technology firms in the UK, and one of the largest in Europe. The UK government aims to use it as a model as it seeks to encourage the clustering of hi-tech businesses at an early stage of the development of their products. However, some observers believe that the Cambridge Science Park does not act as a true community, especially as there is a lack of common facilities.

Silicon Valley of the sub-continent
Article Abstract:
Electronic City, located near Bangalore, India, is now home to around 80 companies. Bangalore has become the focus of the Indian software industry, and will account for almost one third of India's anticipated software exports of $2.7 billion in 1999. There is still considerable poverty in Bangalore, but the local economy is beginning to expand as services are developed to meet the needs of wealthy software engineers. The city's population has expanded significantly over recent years, placing the infrastructure under great pressure.
