Bringing judges into the real world
Article Abstract:
Extensive changes are starting to be made to the UK's system of appointing judges. Posts are now being advertised, and their retirement age and pension arrangements are being brought into line with the rest of the population. Judges will now only be able to sit on the bench after the age of 70 at the discretion of the Lord Chancellor, and will not be allowed to sit at all after the age of 75. This will serve to lower the average age of judges, as will the creation of a single pension scheme.

Zen and the art of workspace design
Article Abstract:
The offices of Invesco in London, England, are spacious and aim to be user-freindly. Employers are recognising the staff should be allowed to enjoy working at ther workplace, and there are new demands on offices as more work can be done at home. There are differences in the way that different cultures see workplaces, with cubicles favored in the US in preference to open plan offices, and some professionals from mainland Europe prefer not to share an office.

You'll never work in this business again
Article Abstract:
The UK government's Public Interest Disclosure Bill is aimed at protecting whistle-blowers from dismissal and victimization. A key provision of this legislation is the introduction of full compensation for those who are dismissed after making others aware of malpractice in their workplace. It is hoped that the legislation will encourage more people to become whistle-blowers, thus acting as a significant check on accountability.
