This one's from the heart
Article Abstract:
Singer Tom Waits does not feel that his music contains a message to be interpreted. He avoids being defined, and prefers to exaggerate the nature of performance. He has sought over recent years to shed his 1970s beatnik image, but has found that it is hard to create a new persona. His new album, 'Mule Variations,' has allowed him to assume all his favoured disguises. It differs very considerably from the albums which made him famous in the 1970s.

Finland's serial mystic
Article Abstract:
Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara does not feel that he was overshadowed by Jean Sibelius, even though Sibelius was a father figure for him in many ways. He has always been interested in other forms of consciousness, and regards music as a way of identifying and gaining an insight into these forms. His 'Autumn Gardens' is to receive its world premiere at the Albert Hall in London, England, as part of the 1999 Proms season.
