Brown calls for a global regulator
Article Abstract:
The UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown, has made calls for an alliance of the world's international institutions and the establishment of a global regulator for financial markets. A permanent standing committee for worldwide financial regulation should also be created. This committee would combine the IMF's expertise with that of the Basle committee and the World Bank, as well as other international regulatory groupings. Under this new committee new codes of monetary and fiscal conduct will be established. It would also address inadequacies in the quality of risk assessment and gaps in the international regulatory system. Ways of improving information flows to the private sector and improved ways of identifying systemic risk to the global financial market will be sought too. Mr Brown was speaking at the Ottawa Summit of Commonwealth finance ministers.

The lads still rule in adland
Article Abstract:
It remains difficult for women working in advertising to make progress in their career, even though advertising is widely seen as liberal and progressive. Women account for half the people working in advertising agencies, but only 7% of senior managers in advertising are women. There are particular problems for women in agency creative departments, where there is a strongly male-dominated culture.
