Call for nicotine patches on NHS
Article Abstract:
The high cost of smoking-related illnesses to the UK's National Health Service (NHS), put at GB 1.7bn per year, could be partly tackled by making nicotine patches and gum available on prescription. Nicotine replacement therapy currently costs smokers from GB 120 to over GB 200 for a three-month supply, and discourages some people from giving up. However, trials reveal that taking nicotine replacements increases the success rate for giving up tobacco to 6% from around 3%. The introduction of subsidised nicotine patches has been suggested by a group of Members of Parliament and health experts in a report submitted to the House of Commons.

New labour, new life
Article Abstract:
It is very common for people in their 20s to feel that they have chosen the wrong career, as they have often simply accepted the first reasonable job offer they received. This feeling can cause both psychological and physical problems. If a career change is to be made, then it is best to do so at a relatively young age, when money and status are still not particularly important. Employers are now more understanding about people's need to change careers, and do not think badly of someone who has done two or three different jobs.

Those who mourn must queue to be comforted
Article Abstract:
It is often necessary to wait a long time to obtain the services of a counsellor in the UK. Cruse, the National Bereavement counselling charity, admits that the delay between seeking counselling and actually seeing a counsellor can cause problems. The British Association for Counselling points out that demand for counsellors is much higher than the services provided, particularly in rural areas. Charities providing counselling services are further hampered by the fact that they are often short of funds.
