Can Prozac destroy our free will?
Article Abstract:
The controversy surrounding Joe Wesbecker, who killed eight of his co-workers and then shot himself after having taken the anti-depressive drug Prozac, has served to highlight mixed views about this drug. Its manufacturer, Eli Lilly, successfully fought off legal action by the survivors of the attack and the relatives of those killed, claiming that Wesbecker was not unduly influenced by the drug. This development should be welcomed as showing that human beings are not simply victims of their brain chemistry and that they do actually have free will.

MPs condemn 'naive' church commissioners
Article Abstract:
The Social Security Committee, an all-party select committee, has published a report which strongly criticises the Church Commissioners, who are responsible for the 2.4 billion pounds sterling assets of the Church of England, and Sir Douglas Lovelock, who headed the Church Commissioners for the 10 years to Jan 1993. The report indicates that the Church Commissioners did not follow normal accounting practices, caused problems with the income flow to the Church of England and indulged in misguided financial speculation.

For this man hell is having to say what he believes in
Article Abstract:
Dr. George Carey, the Archbishop of Canterbury, wants a central committee to be set up to control the agenda of the General Synod and the church's revenue. The Synod, whose members are elected by an indirect and secret process, represent the sector of the Church of England which like committees but are not aware of what happens in the world at large. The official policies of the church tend to change because of the Synod, and divisions within the church become more public than those within other religions.
