How Italy's transformation of economy could change the world
Article Abstract:
Most analysts believe that the Italian economy has improved recently, but point out that there is still considerable scope for further improvement. However, from the monetary point of view Italy is actually performing reasonably well. It has returned to the position of monetary discipline which it occupied in the early 1980s, and has benefited from increasing the independence of the Banca d'Italia. Inflation has been running at 2.6%, and could fall to 2% in 1997.
