Singer, guitarist and songwriter Carl Wilson sang with his two older brothers from an early age, and linked with them, a cousin and a neighbour to form Carl and the Passions before he was 15. The group later changed its name to the Beach Boys. Its first national success was 'Surfin',' released in 1961. In 1962, the group signed with Capitol Records, and over the next four years had a run of Top 20 hits. In later years, the group's success was less predictable, and Carl and his brothers all experienced cocaine and alcohol addiction.

Roger Troutman

Singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and producer Roger Troutman was influenced by the Ohio Players and bass-player Bootsy Collins from an early age. He performed in a family group with his brothers, and this group evolved into sophisticated R&B group Zapp, with Troutman as lead singer and instrumentalist. Zapp's 1980 debut single, 'More Bounce to the Ounce,' was an instant success. In 1981, Troutman began performing on his own, and launched a solo album entitled 'The Many Facets of Roger.'

Singer, songwriter, drummer and pianist Kevin Godfrey, known as Epic Soundtracks, first began performing with Nicholas, his older brother, who assumed the alias Nikki Sudden. With bassist Jowe Head, the brothers made their first live performance at Barbarellas in Birmingham, England, in Boxing Day 1977. They released their first single, 'Read About Seymour,' on their own Rather label. They recorded two albums, 'A Trip to Marineville' in 1979 and 'Jane From Occupied Europe' in 1980.
