Len Lowe

Comedian Len Lowe was a pupil at the Italia Conti School. He made his first West End appearance in that school's annual production for parents, and subsequently appeared in the original production of Noel Coward's 'Cavalcade.' He performed with Robert Atkins's company for two annual seasons of Shakespeare plays. He made his adult West End debut in the variety spectacular 'Life Begins at Oxford Circus' in 1935. He formed the double act Len and Bill Lowe with his brother in 1938. They appeared in RAF Gang Shows during the second world war, and later performed on radio.

Charlie Chester

Comedian Charlie Chester became a professional performer as a teenager, having already won many talent competitions. He taught himself to play the guitar, and first performed as a solo act at the age of 17. He later appeared on television and at the London Palladium, but was never able to establish a presence in films. His most successful television appearance was in 'Educated Evans,' and he also appeared in the popular West End musical 'Zip Goes a Million.'

Henny Youngman
Article Abstract:
Comedian Henny Youngman was forced to learn the violin from an early age, and this instrument was later to be a constant feature of his act. He toured as a comedian, and then began radio work in the late 1930s. He gained popular acclaim through the radio series 'Kate Smith Show,' and after the second world war was selected as one of several hosts for 'Texaco Star Theatre.' The height of his career came in 1955 with 'The Henny and Rocky Show.'
