Carving's not for turkeys
Article Abstract:
Carving skis and related equipment are set to be extremely fashionable in the 1997 to 1998 skiing season. These skis have a wide tip and tail which dig into the snow when the ski is put on its edge and pressure is applied through the boot to make a turn. They have a narrow, and thus more flexible, waist, which will bend. The middle section of the ski's edge is able to move outwards before it comes into contact with the snow. It is worth purchasing a video which explains the technique needed when using carving skis.

Article Abstract:
A number of new ski models are now becoming available in the UK. These include double-ended skis, which have a pointed tip at the front and back. These are designed to introduce a snowboarding element into skiing, with the twin tips allowing skiers to go backwards. There is also growing emphasis on freeride skis, which are quite long and wide and can deal with all snow conditions.
