Children becoming teens 'at age of 10.'
Article Abstract:
Children in today's society in the UK are growing up more rapidly than was the case with children in earlier generations, according to a study by advertising agency McCann-Erickson. They are becoming sophisticated and independent at an early age, and have a clear view of their potential. They are less influenced by their parents than children of earlier generations, and their views are increasingly determined by magazines, peers, television and the Internet. This change is particularly clear in children aged 10, 11 and 12, who wish to be regarded as teenagers.

The censor goes public
Article Abstract:
It is very difficult to strike a balance between protecting the public from obscenity and extreme violence and avoiding infringing freedom of expression, according to British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) Director Robin Duval. He feels that the BBFC disappoints people on both sides of this argument. However, he believes that developments such as the creation of a BBFC website will ensure improved public understanding of the organization's reasoning.

Our generation of couch potato kids, stuck in their rooms and glued to TV
Article Abstract:
The main source of entertainment for many children in the UK is now television and computer games in their bedroom, according to a report by the London School of Economics. Children would generally rather seek entertainment outside the home, but their parents are unwilling to allow this because of fears for their safety. One in five children now has their own VCR, with two-thirds playing computer games and 68% owning a personal stereo.
