Carson Smith
Article Abstract:
Bass player, composer and arranger Carson Smith began playing the bass at the age of 13. He became widely admired for his time and choice of notes, and became one of the best bass soloists by the 1950s. His success was largely due to his membership of the Gerry Mulligan Quartet, which did not use a piano and therefore gave high priority to his instrument. He was responsible for creating 'My Funny Valentine,' one of the group's greatest hits.
