Linda Schele
Article Abstract:
Mayanist and artist Linda Schele first visited Mexico as a tourist in 1970. It was on this trip that she came into contact with Maya art and writing. She quickly became a leading Maya epigrapher. She co-founded a hieroglyphic workshop with Nancy Troike at the University of Texas at Austin in 1977, and in 1981 took up an associate professorship, which from 1987 was a full position. She inspired many younger scholars to take up Maya studies.
