Cartoonist Raymond Jackson, known as Jak, was a regular contributor to publications such as Lilliput and Punch before he joined the Evening Standard in 1952. He became this newspaper's political cartoonist in 1965, and his drawings soon attracted considerable interest from collectors. He sold drawings to many politicians, businessmen and television and sports personalities, and his work also appears in public archives. He made fun of all sections of society, and was sometimes politically incorrect.

Reg Smythe
Article Abstract:
Cartoonist Reginald Smith, known as Reg Smythe, left school at 14 and soon enlisted in the Army as a regular soldier. He became a machine-gunner during the second world war, and after the war joined the Post Office. At this stage he began to sell cartoons on a freelance basis to many magazines. He became most well known for his Andy Capp character, launched in Aug 1957. Smythe's cartoon style was initially rather crude, but he later adapted it to suit the low panelling.

Roy Ullyett
Article Abstract:
Cartoonist and caricaturist Roy Ullyett was born in London, England, in 1914. He became a freelance cartoonist on leaving school, selling his first cartoon to the Southend Times in 1932. He joined the Star as sports cartoonist in 1934.
