City that came in from the cold
Article Abstract:
The city of Riga, Latvia, has many attractions for visitors. Most of its city walls were removed in the 17th century, but it still has the Great Guild Hall, now used as the concert hall of the Latvian Philharmonic, and Blackhead's House, a 14th-century Germanic-style hall that is now being rebuilt. The city has a fascinating social and ethnic mix, and visitors will hear many different languages being spoken. English is the main language for conversing with foreigners, but German and Russian are also used.

Where to find your Latin lava
Article Abstract:
The Aeolian island of Vulcano contains four volcanos in only 21 sq km. Only the Vulcano della Fossa, which dominates the countryside beyond the village of Porto di Levante, is still active. The island has 500 residents, who rely heavily on tourism for their income. There are around 12 hotels, but many visitors come for the day from Lipari and the other Aeolian islands. The sea around these islands is often stormy, and this means that ferries are frequently out of action.
