Commander Charles Eckersley-Maslin
Article Abstract:
Naval officer Charles Eckersley-Maslin entered military life at an early age, fighting with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders on the Western Front in the first world war. He joined the Royal Irish Constabulary serving in County Clare in 1919, and in 1922 joined the British South African Mounted Police in Southern Rhodesia. He started training as a civil pilot in 1932, and became a Lieutenant-Commander (Air Duties) in the Fleet Air Arm in 1939.

Harbourne Mackay Stephen
Article Abstract:
Pilot and newspaper manager Harbourne Mackay Stephen was born in Elgin, Scotland, in 1916. He began his working life in 1931 as a copy boy for Allied Newspapers. He served with the RAF during the second world war, shooting down 23 enemy aircraft. He became general manager of the Scottish Daily and Sunday Express in 1955.

Tony Bartley
Article Abstract:
Pilot, television producer and writer Tony Bartley was born in Dacca, India, in 1919. He qualified as a pilot in 1938 and served in the RAF during the second world war. He later wrote and produced television films.
