Compaq drops a bomb on IT sector
Article Abstract:
Compaq Computer has warned that its earnings for the first quarter of 1999 will be around 15 cents a share, half the level predicted by analysts. This warning has affected financial markets around the world. Compaq has attributed its poor financial performance to price competition and an unanticipated fall in demand. Analysts are now considering the possible implications of Compaq's plight for the information technology sector as a whole and for the US economy. Compaq itself is focusing on preventing a slump in investor confidence.
