Staff tailor-made for the small business
Article Abstract:
A scheme led by a consortium made up of Liverpool City Council, Merseyside Training and Enterprise Council and Liverpool's three higher education institutions is successfully creating strong links between graduates and local companies on Merseyside. Around 500 jobs have been created for graduates over the last two years, while elsewhere the graduate employment market has been very weak. The programme is free to graduates, while companies pay 60-80 pounds a week to participate.

Why students are speaking in tongues
Article Abstract:
Many university students are now choosing to study a language on top of their main degree subject, as most universities offer some optional language courses. These concentrate on practical language skills, and at some universities can count towards the student's final degree. Students are aware that languages can be useful in a future career, and also welcome the chance to study something other than their main degree subject.
