Crossing frontiers
Article Abstract:
The most successful record labels are those where the staff follow their instincts, rather than focusing on commercial success, according to Nonesuch Records President Robert Hurwitz. He believes that the label should record what it likes, and that the public will generally respond positively. However, he is also aware that the record label should not be too centred on his personal tastes. Nonesuch tends to link up with musicians who are driven by a clear creative imperative.

Article Abstract:
It is very common for critics to be regarded negatively, with many people feeling that critics are destructive and that they seek personal gain at the creative artist's expense. In fact, critics can play a positive role. They give an insight into performances and works to which ordinary people may not necessarily have access, and are able to apply their specialized knowledge to make an informed judgement. Criticism can bring about a valuable exchange of views.
