Dances with the Senator
Article Abstract:
Indian pow-wows were traditionally a ceremonial gathering, but have now become more like a dance festival, with prizes being awarded to the best dancers in each category. These festivals attract many white people as well as Indians. There are some links with traditional Indian practices, such as traditional food, but there is also a strong sense that modern commercialism has partly taken over these events. However, visitors feel privileged to gain an insight into Indian culture.

The mother of malls
Article Abstract:
Shopping malls have established a strong presence in the UK retail industry since the Brent Cross shopping centre, the first mall in the country, was opened in 1976. Shoppers welcome the variety and security which malls offer, and are happy not to use high streets, which have become increasingly run-down. The government is no longer strongly in favour of shopping malls, so these facilities are now having to evolve in order to survive.

The mother of all dances
Article Abstract:
Staff at the Active Birth Centre in London, England, believe that the techniques used in traditional belly-dancing can be effective in relieving pain in labour. The dance movements help women in labour to deal with the pain and to feel in control. Belly-dancing techniques can also be useful for women before they give birth, reducing back pain in the final months of pregnancy and helping women to remain supple and relaxed.
